TO PROSPECTIVE WRITERS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS

The main subjects that Trend covers are art, design, and architecture. If submitting ideas or photos by e-mail, please ensure that your file size does not exceed 1MB. If larger, put it on a disk and send by mail to: Trend, P.O. Box 1951, Santa Fe, NM 87504.

1. Your idea: Please make sure your idea is clearly stated. The five basic W’s of journalism are: who, what, when, where, and why. Be sure your pitch answers these questions.

2. Timeliness: Trend publishes in April, July, and October. The lead time for assignment is three to four months prior to the publication date. Please indicate in 75 words or less what makes your story idea timely for one or several of these issues.

3. Images support: If you are suggesting a photo shoot of architecture or design, please submit a high-resolution CD or DVD including interior and exterior photographs, as well as brief descriptions of the project, its architect and/or designer, and when it was built. Please inform us as well if the project has been published in other magazines or newspapers, and, if so, when.

4. Experience: Describe in 200 words or less your experience as a writer or photographer. In what other venues have you been published? Describe your qualifications and experience. Provide no more than two published clips and/or a brief writing sample, if unpublished, of 500 words or less. All this material should be typewritten.
